What Writing Means To Me

What does ‘writing’ mean?

Ask anyone and they’ll answer,

'It means to put words on a page. To use words to convey something. To tell a story.'

But for me, writing means so much more than that.

Writing means living your life and living in your world but also living in a completely different world surrounded by completely different people; you look around you and you don’t always see the world you live in, but the world that exists only in your mind

Writing means always having a story playing out in your head

Writing means living a thousand different lives from the comfort of your bedroom

Writing means being inside the head of a hundred different people at the same time

Writing means feeling everything your characters feel: their joy, their sorrow, their hope, their fear, their pain

Writing means living so deeply inside the mind of made-up people that you sometimes feel like you’re not sure when a thought is your own and when it belongs to one of your characters. It means feeling…

The Unpopular Opinions Book Tag! (ft. me screaming about things that annoy me and generally being saltier than the ocean) (Oh hush this is why you all love me)

Hey guys! Your favourite blogger is back (what do you mean, I’m not your favourite blogger?? That’s ridiculous) and I’m here to complain about stuff!! Yay!

Look, I like to complain about stuff that annoys me, okay? I’m not going to lie about it. (If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, you know I like to complain.) I find complaining therapeutic. I mean, if you can actually do something to make things better and do something about the things that are annoying you, then 100% do it mate, don’t just sit there and mope about it. But there are always things that you can’t really do anything to solve. Feeling annoyed that no-one sees things from your perspective, feeling stressed over an upcoming exam, feeling really bloody cold COME ON it’s meant to be spring ffs, feeling insulted by the mere existence of racists and homophobes? COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. RANT AT SOMEONE. LET IT ALL OUT. And when you’re done, people still won’t see things from your perspective, and you’ll still be str…

Really Random Post - life updates, YouTube shoutouts + WIP snippets!

*jumps into view* HEY GUYS!

It's been a while.

I mean, not a huge while?? Just like... three weeks?

Ok so that's a pretty big while. BUT. Hey, I'm here now, aren't I!! I'm back!! Isn't this exciting!!

Anyways, I do have an excuse for having dropped off the blogging radar for some time, or rather, I have several excuses. These are:

                          1. I have my first GCSE exams coming up in just over a week (A WEEK?!) so I've been reeeallly busy revising and finishing everything off and just basically stressing. (I mean, I'm not that stressed? But I do have LOADS I still have to revise before my exams.) Which means I have very little free time to come up with blog posts and even less time to actually WRITE the darn things. (No but seriously, how come blog posts can't just write themselves?? It would make everything so much easier.)

                         2. I've been working really hard on my WIP, and as I mentioned, I have reduced…

The Get To Know Me Tag: Writer's Edition (i.e. me rambling about myself and my writing) (I LIKE TALKING ABOUT MYSELF OK LEAVE ME ALONE)

Hey guys! So it looks like I've been tagged again, and in a startling turn of events, I'm actually going to do this within a couple of weeks of getting tagged!! I KNOW. I'M VERY SURPRISED AT ME TOO.

I was tagged by the lovely Gray Marie from Writing Is Life, thank you!! Her blog is amazing, if you haven't followed it yet, like... what are you doing with your life child. Go check it out like now.

So it looks like this is a tag where I get to answer questions about two of my favourite topics to ramble about, i.e. 1: my writing, and 2: myself. (Look I like to talk about myself okay?? Call me self-centred if you will, but I can't help it. That's just the way it is.) So this will be FUN.*

* Maybe.

Anyway, let's dive right in!

link back to the person who created the tag - - thank the person who tagged you - - share the tag graphic (optional, optional! I know it won't go with everyone's blog design) - - tag eleven bloggers –

"Not In The Stars" // Poetry

Went out looking for a shooting star tonight  To make a wish on  To pray on  To wish for the darkness and shadows and nightmares to leave me alone  To let me start living again  For my hope to come back
But out on these streets all I see is more darkness and more shadows  And more nightmares  And more despair  No shooting stars  No luck  The air smells like smoke and fumes  And crushed, shattered dreams  And I don’t have a choice but to breathe it all in
I was looking for a bit of peace tonight  A change in pace  A change in luck  For the tables to turn  To finally have something to hope for  For something to pull me out of the black hole I’ve been living in  For far too long  But I guess it’s just not in the stars tonight  Or ever
I left home looking for more than what I already had  Didn’t like the cards fate dealt me  So I threw them away and went searching for a new hand  A better hand  But I guess it just wasn’t in the stars  And now all I have is darkness and shadows  And crushed, shattered dreams

I COME BEARING SNIPPETS (they're for everyone to share okay, make a tidy line, no pushing)

It's me.

AAAAH THAT NEVER GETS OLD DOES IT. Try and tell me you didn't just sing that in your head if you want, I won't believe you.

Anyway, I come bearing SNIPPETS! Of my current WIP, a.k.a the unnamed project that's been driving me crazy for about five months now. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out this post, where I talk about what my WIP is about (plus a few earlier snippets).

I've been in one of those moods lately where I actually think my writing project is turning out quite well and that it might have some chance of one day being a semi-decent novel. (Question: is it bad to fangirl over your own characters?? Because I totally fangirl over my own characters. THEY ARE SO AWESOME*. *Sometimes.) I'd been suffering from really bad writers' block until recently, namely because a few weeks ago I accidentally tripped and fell into a dark pit of self-doubt... Like, I got so anxious about my writing I just. Could. Not. Write. An…

Life update thingy: my writing isn't going great, but we have snow so never mind

Hey guys... so since I have nothing better to do (wow I sound so passionate about blogging don't I) I've decided to write a sort of life update post! I haven't written a life update in a while... in fact, I know I've been pretty AWOL around here lately, something to do with the small fact that I have zero inspiration for blog posts and even less time to write them. But never mind, I'm here now! And I'm about to treat you all (or torture you) to me rambling about my thoroughly uninteresting life!! Yay!!

Well, as you may or may not know, it's been snowing pretty heavily throughout the UK (and most of Europe, actually, as far as I know) this past week, and it snowed where I live! If you don't know, snow is actually pretty rare in London; it usually snows a little bit every year but it rarely settles and if it does, it only lasts a few hours. Well, all this past week we've had several inches of snow in my neighbourhood - it started snowing on Monday and…

"Flames" // Short story

So I haven't posted a short story here in months, mostly because, um, I haven't actually written a short story in months. I've been too busy working on my WIP (which is the most awesome thing I've ever written but is also driving me completely  insane). But yesterday I learned about the writing contest hosted by Gracie Chick and Gracie Marchiani (actually I saw the post about it a few weeks ago but I, um, forgot)(Look I have a memory like a colander okay) and two of the writing prompts really grabbed my imagination, so I wrote this.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed writing this story; I didn't think too much about what I was writing, I just sat down and let the words flow out of me and I put so much passion into it and it was just awesome. So thank you so much to Gracie and Gracie for hosting this contest! If you  have time I encourage you to enter their competition, the deadline is a week from now, click here to learn more.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy my stor…
